Frequently asked questions

What is psychotherapy and how can it help me?

Psychotherapy is a talking therapy that will support you to explore your experiences and emotions in a safe and confidential space. It can provide support to help you deal with problems such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, addiction and relationship problems. It can also support you with personal growth and increased self-awareness.

Are you a qualified psychotherapist?

I am a trainee member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and am undertaking a four-year Diploma in Relational Integrative Psychotherapy as I work toward full accreditation. I have passed a Fitness to Practice Assessment and have full insurance and a Clinical Supervisor in place.

What type of psychotherapy approach do you use?

My training is in Relational-Developmental Psychotherapy, which focuses on the importance of relationships in shaping your emotional and psychological well-being. It is a collaborative approach, which means I will work alongside you and be an active presence in your sessions. Relational-Developmental Psychotherapy will support you to understand how you relate to others and to yourself and will help you to identify patterns in your life that both support and hinder you.

How many sessions will I need and how long does each session last?

Each session is 50 minutes. How many sessions you have is down to you, what you need and what you want to work on. We will discuss what you want from your therapy in the first session and create a plan together. As we work together you may find you want to explore new things, so while we will review how you are doing regularly we will not set a limit on the number of sessions you will have.

What will happen in the first session?

In the first session we will discuss what brings you to therapy, what is important to you and what you hope to gain from your sessions. There will also be some standard information for me to collect from you. The first session is also an opportunity for you to ask me any questions about how we will work together.

Can I talk to you before arranging a session?

Absolutely. I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation where you can ask me anything about working with me and decide if I'm right for you.

Is what we talk about confidential?

Yes, what we discuss is confidential and will not be shared outside of your therapy. There are exceptions to this (for example if there is a risk of harm to you or someone else) and I will explain this clearly in our first session.

How much do sessions cost?

My fee is £35 per 50 minute session. This fee reflects my trainee status. Payment can be made by bank transfer or cash. I also hold a limited number of places ar a reduced fee of £15 for people in receipt of means-tested benefits.
