About me
I first decided I wanted to train to be a psychotherapist through my own transformative experience of therapy as a client.
This inspired me to explore psychotherapy from the other side of the room and offer the service to others.
I am undertaking a four-year Diploma in Relational Integrative Psychotherapy where I am working toward full accreditation with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
My approach
The core of my approach is relational-developmental. This means I am interested in how your relationships with others, particularly in your early years, have shaped how you make sense of the world and yourself. In your therapy, we will explore how patterns from your past show up in your life right now.
I provide a space where you can safely explore things that are troubling you, whether these are in your day-to-day life or have been with you for a long time.
I will work with you to establish a safe relationship as the secure base for your therapy. From there, we will explore what you are feeling and experiencing to support you to find a more solid sense of yourself.
In your sessions I will be active and present. We will explore what you are thinking, feeling and sensing. We will focus on what is happening in your life right now, what you feel moment-to-moment in your sessions and what has happened in your past. These are all doorways to understanding and working through what is making you feel stuck.
Areas of interest
While my approach is suited to working with clients with a wide range of issues, I have a small number of areas of special interest in practice, training and research:
- Emotional neglect or abuse in childhood
- Mixed race identity and belonging
- Male identity and masculinity.
